America and Libya (Post #15)

Libya is in the midst of a violent civil war with mercenaries from Africa are fighting the revolting citizens of that country. Kadafi is using bombers to try and take back lost ground while the rebels manage to hold on against unbelievable odds. Human rights are being stomped on by the dictator who seems to be in complete denial blaming the countries problems on Al Qaeda who he says drugged the populace to cause this uprising. Talk of american and U.N. intervention has begun. Should we, america, become involved to end human rights abuses and to oust the dictator? Should we stay out of the middle east and worry about issues here? As the worlds police force where do we stand? Please respect the opinions of others when you blog

  1. Another war for America means more problems with more people and more resources being used. It would not be smart to intervene in what is happening in Libya even though the U.S. is considered a world police. Helping innocent people by providing safety and supplies would be best in this situation and that can be done through the United Nations. Taking a side is not the answer to this crisis.

  2. I think the U.S. should just stay out of the middle east. The united states can't even afford the wars they are currently in, let alone another. I don't think the U.S. can financially support getting involved in another war right now. We have our own problems here that need to be addressed before getting involved in foreign affairs and putting the U.S. in mt. ore debt.

Though it seems that the united states is known for protecting the rights of the people this time i believe that they should not get involved because there are enough problems in the country as there is. But realistically speaking we know that if someone with a lot of power does not intervene in this civil war many bad things could happen. though in the news they portray the United States as somebody that is the mediator they really have stronger reasons than just freeing the people of Libya. For example why don't they mention how some of the biggest producers of oil is in the Middle East and that would definitely affect us. Also one fun fact would be that even though the U.S. does help many countries really they always seem want to have their noose in everything and that affects us, but really is there another option but to get involved.

  4. I think the united states should stay out of the conflict until we see there is an absolute need for intervention because the US has an enormous debt that needs to be addressed and i think it would be irresbonsible to add to it unless absolutly ncessary.

I believe that America should not get invloved with Libya problems because another war for us is not good at all. We already have too many problems with our economy, and going on a war will waste more of the little money we have, and i think that that money left, should be used for impotant things like schools for example. I believe that the thing that we should do is stay away from those countries, for the greater good, and not make the problem even bigger, plus, we have problems ourselves to handle and deal with. I believe that our police force here in the U.S. is ok because in some cases they do, do the right thing but in other cases they are not right, so i believe that it could be better.

  7. In a way i think America SHOULDN'T be involved because that would only then cause more problems for us, when we already have problems of our own. On the other hand i do think we should go in and help those people who are getting their human right taken away by some dictator because they deserve to have their human rights and that's something that shouldn't be taken away from anyone. Getting involved could, like i said, bring us even more problems we could not handle.

  8. America should stay out of other country's business and worry about their own issues. America has soo many issues and conflicts of their own, and they shouldn't be wanting to help take care of other countries when it can hardly take care of itself. It's good that they want to become involved to end human rights abuses and to oust the dictator, but the federal government or whoever obviously does not know that getting involved in other country's issues is not what the US needs at the moment. Yes it will help that country or possibly more, but it can also bring us more problems at home. As the world's police force, it's understandable that it is our obligation to help and serve others. Knowing as little as I know though, our position as the world's police force should be taken back until we are able to uphold that title.

I agree with the other bloggers who said we should stay out of this conflict, for now at least. If the situation worsens and our intervention is absolutely necessary, at that time we should step in. I am somewhat confused about what the situation is exactly because the first sentence seems to have some typos, but I understand that their is a dictatorship. Since the United States is a democratic nation we are naturally against dictators, but we still should not intervene until it is necessary, especially since we have major economic problems.

i do not think america should get involved in that situation. we have so many problems here that need to be dealt with. going into war again will just cause more problems and hurt our economy even more. i agree with maria though. if the problem over there gets worse then yes we should go help. even though we are pretty much anti-dictatorship, we dont need to give them are attention right now. we need to worry about our own problems.

  15. The United States needs to worry about their own problems and issues first and let these other countries worry about themselves. This is why our economy is the way it is today. We need to worry about our own issues, because in order to help others we must first help ourselves. Because the last thing we need is to be involved with yet another ten year long civil war!

At this point, we are facing negative effects no mater what we do. If we were to stay out of the issue, the market will continue to take heavy hits and this could come back to hurt us if they are to actually defeat the rebels. On the other hand, if we were to jump into this war it would be just like all others. The USA will be divided by the people who want to fight, and the people who protest war. I say that we join the war, but only if we can gain material and reliability by doing so.

  18. I do not think that the US itself should get involved in libya, because we are dealing already with alot of things. I do think though that the UN should get involved in general and help out the victims of the dictatorship. 19. The United States should not get involved in Libya. From what I've seen,it seems that this revolution trend is going to prolong for a while. If U.S. helps one, then it might have to help the others as well. The U.S. did not get involved when there was uprising in Egypt, and at the end everything turned out alright. The case might not be the same with Libya, but I believe that The United States should stay out of it until it is crucially neccessary.

I think the US should stay out of this problem for now, even if we are considered the world police. The US needs to take care of its own people before others in the Middle East. The UN should take on the challenge of getting the dictator out of rule. The citizens need help and they won't be able to do it on their own; but I just don't think right now is a good time for the US to intervene.

  27. Why does America think that everything that happens in the world requires us to butt our heads in? I really don't get it, other countries do perfectly well working on their own countries, like Switzerland, why can't we stay neutral??? I believe that the UN needs to step in and help, and that America as a nation should focus on what is happenning here on the home front with the economy and whatnot. I also think that our "great nation" should take a page from the book of the young Libyans and stand up for what we want, and stop letting the elderly pawn their problems off on the younger generation, its just not cool of them.

  28. i believe that america should help the people of the country. This is human rights, if it was our country like this we would want others to help us. Why should we do no less for others. This could cause another war but it means more jobs. We need more supplies which means we need more output. With more demanded price will eventually meet. More produced means more money which means more jobs for our struggling economy. From an economic p.o.v. this makes perfect sense. From a government p.o.v. it depends on ur stand of how strong you want the U.S. to be in the world political system. It could be not only us, this effects countries around the world and if the U.N. gets involved other countries will as well.

  75. Yeah I don't think so. We seriously have tried to help enough. Or what we think is to help. Let them figure it out on their own. Learn from their mistakes. It would be like saying they aren't strong enough. If they do actually beat them they will feel accomplished. Whether we want them to feel that way or not, maybe they wont be so bitter? But I just know if we intervene they'll blame somethin' on us. So we should just focus on us for once. We've got to stop babying these other countries we think are weaker. Sure, they might be, but it's like a huge slap in the face to them (I would assume).

I think the US should stay out of the middle east and the problems there going through. The US has problems of their own and needs to fix theres here before trying to help over there. Would we even know what side to choose? Its a big enough mess and doesnt need any more help on making it worst!

  77. The war in the middle east sounds very dangerous, but the United States has enough problems of our own. We have intervened in many affairs that do not concern us, and that has brought us many problems. In helping the United States can make a new enemy which is something that we do not need from the middle east. The United States has other wars to worry about already.

  78. i dont think that we should go into the middle east. we have our own problems here that we need to fix. before we help other we need to help ourselves

  79. We should not go to the middle east they have their problems and we have ours, they should solve their own stuff and we should just leave them alone.

  80. On a moral standpoint I believe the u.s should help the innocent in the middle east. Help them them overcome a mean dictatorship that puts theirselves before the people. We should help all those who are deprived from basic human rights. It is sad to think on how cruel the world is. Life in America is nothing compared to life over there. Although it is right to help we must do so in a way to ensure our best intrest. As Jimmy Roberts mentioned..let the UN be the muscle instead of sending our troops.

  81. In my opinion it would be nice to help and stop what is going on but then we have already have our own problems that we decided to deal with instead of leaving it alone.

  82. I think that the united states should not get involved with the problems the middle east has. i think that the U.S. already has many problems, getting involved will only get more countries against the U.S.

  83. I think that it would be better to stay out ofthe problem. There is already so much going on its like we are asking to get "punched in the face" soto speak cause making ourselves be in other coutrys problem like that is assuming that we can and have the ability to make it betrer when in actuality we may just make it worse.
