Is she serious.....enough? (Post #8)

With the next presidential elections coming in 2012 the republicans are looking for a candidate to run against Barak Obama. The list of possible nominees is long with names like Mit Romney, Donald Trump, and Sarah Palin among others. Sarah Palin the former vice-presidential candidate, Governor of Alaska, and reality television star, is in the news again. After the State of the Union address she commented the president's speech using a fairly common acronym "WTF." The president was referring to "winning the future" Ms. Palin was not. She has been described as "folksy," unorthodox, funny, and cute. Are any of these terms appropriate to describe a future president? Does she possess the necessary gravitas? Would Ms. Palin have the ability to deal with the extremely serious position of President of the United States? What is your opinion in this matter? Would you be happy with President Palin or not? Please be respectful of other opinions when you blog.

  1. I don't think that Palin could ever win the presidency, not in a million years. She is just a little too 'out there' with her ideas and her comments. She is constantly in the news due to her controversial comments so I think that a lot of people disagree with her views. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other on if she becomes president but I don't think she ever could; If by some miracle she did manage the election to presidency I don't think she could handle it and would cave under the pressure. Palin is a unique candidate and some people like that, but I don't think those people could ever form a majority. Bauer/Sloan

I dont think this female could ever have a chance to run for president for the simple fact that a copious majority of people will not take her seriously. For instance im not taking her seriously and i dont think what she said is cute nor funny it is just unnecessary and im sure many of us dont care what she had to say about Obama's WTF plan, or as Palin said Obama's "thing."

To know that this lady even has a chance to become the President of the U.S. is out of this world. Terms such as "folksy, unorthodox, funny, and cute" are not adjectives that should be used to describe our "Future" President. They are terms that are better to describe an animal in my opinion. lol. Yes I understand Ms. Palin is a very unique candidate, and that is why soo many people like her, but let's be honest, why would we want someone who acts in such ways to be the President of our country? It makes me react the same way she did to Obama's speech...WTF!??.hahaha =)

  5. I personally do NOT like Obama and I want someone else to be president. It's not that I don't like Palin, it's just that she is not popular among the people so I don't think that she would win although I really wish that she would win because why would people want a president that lied. She spoke the truth and yet people still don't like her. So that makes me think a lot.

  7. There are a lot of people who are in love with Palin, and probably a good deal more who can't stand her. From what I've heard she did a pretty solid job running Alaska, and being a governor seems to be reasonable qualifications for being President. As far as the WTF comment, I find it refreshing to hear a political figure sharing her mind in laymans' terms rather than leaving the public with a bunch of politically correct, difficult to decipher, much too academic mumbo jumbo to sort through.

i dont think palin has the proper social skills or class to be the next president. wtf? thats no way to respond to a colleague's speech, its something a teenager would do. She needs to get her show and family together first, then maybe she can focus on governor, but she would definitely not be a good presidential candidate.

  9. I agree with everyone and Hailey haha, Palin has the vibrancy it should take to be a president, and certainly did a good job of running Alaska, but as of this point I think she said a little too much and had one too many reality TV shows to be taken seriously. She certainly has what it takes to be governor, buuuut I dont think her characteristics are what we need to fix America at this point, I think Trump would be more suitable atm.

I'm not into politics much and I can see how Ms. Palin doesn't come across as not being "professional" enough. However, it is kind of refreshing to see a political figure who is normal and can relate to the vast majority of Americans who don't fly on private jets to vacation spots between publicity shoots. And Donald Trump as president...WTF??

  11. I don't think that Palin could handle the position as president of the U.S. because she resigned as governor of Alaska. The comments that she has said and continues to say are not how a future president is supposed to act. I think that a woman will be president in the near future, but it won't be her.

  12. Although Sarah Palin did a great job as govenor of Alaska, running for President is another story. Her strive for publicity seems like a little too much; and it only makes sense that instead of taking care of presidential tasks, she will be on t.v. doing some reality show. Sarah Palin's 'tell it how it is' personality is comforting and reminds the public that she is one of us, and not some political walking dictionary. However, despite her "cuteness" and "unorthodox" way of doing things productively, she lacks the seriousness of our nation. All in all, Palin does not get my vote.

  13. I dont think that Palin should not have used WTF to talk about and describe President Obama's state of the union speech. She needs to have more decency and respect to the President despite her opposition. I do not think that she should be a president and the adjectives used to describe her do not help, but she did do a fair job in Alaska. Sloan. p.3

  26. Even though I do agree with most that it seems Palin would not be fit for the roll of president (for reasons other than the matter at hand) and additionally I agree, as stated, "cute" etc. should NOT be terms to describe such a person, I do believe it to be ridiculous for everyone to get so flustered over what she said in commenting on the speech. She was trying to be funny, it didn't work, okay MOVE ON. Just based off of hearing her comment on the speech for about ten seconds, I do not think it would be "just" for anyone to declare or deny her of having the ability to "deal with the extremely serious position of President of the United States." We are so quick to judge in today's society it is absolutely sickening that just because we are considering someone for the role of President, we are not able to take into consideration the fact that this person still is human and will either sooner or later attempt to crack a joke. Trying to be funny every once in awhile doesn't mean you're off the bat not a responsible enough person to handle a "serious position."

  29. It's difficult more me to take Sarah Palin seriously, and if she actually ran for President I doubt she would get elected. Honestly, if someone has a REALITY SHOW there's no way I could take them seriously. I was shocked by the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected to California governor. The video mentioned that Sarah Palin is very good at getting press and attention, which is true. But as a possible presidential candidate I don't believe she is getting the RIGHT attention. By the way she conducts herself, I would not trust her leading our executive branch. Maybe she is super brilliant, I don't know. But the media has a way of setting an image for people and her image is not a good one for office. If she wants to be taken seriously as a candidate, she needs to take her show off the air and watch what she says to the media.

She doesn't just say what people want to hear in order to win presidency and run our poor country into the ground even more than it was before, after not keeping almost all of the promises made. That was pointed at no one in particular...Obama. -__- Even if I thought she'd be fine as president, she probably won't be elected to the position. There are plenty of people who love her; but there are more people who aren't at all a fan. She ran Alaska well, I think that is a good background to have if someone ran for presidency. No, "funny" and "cute" are not the approptiate terms to describe a future president, espically if he/she wished to be taken seriously. For a leader to even be considered, certain characteristics should be defined- Is the candidate trustworthy, enthusiastic, and confident? Does he/she have a positive demeanor and express a sense of committed excellence to his/her citizens? In some instances I believe that Sarah Palin would have the ability to deal with the extremely serious position of president because I'm sure in the past she's made vaiild arguments on certain issues and a lot of people may have agreed with her. I think that we should at least demand to have a president who has an IQ above 10! I hope that, even if she did win the primary, that the American people would not vote for her, but then again they did vote for Bush, twice. I mean Regardless of your political views, at least Obama isn't stupid. For now we can only hope that the Republicans see that Palin is not what the world needs, but if she is elected, then there is always Canada to run to.

The American media has screwed up Palin's image so badly that there is no way she could win the presidency. No one will be able to take her points seriously.

I personaly believe that Palin has become more of a comic celebrety. Most of Americans do not take her seriously because she acts imature. We cannothave our leader, who is supposed to represent us, offendeing other countries or us. I think that She will probably be a candidate in the 2012 election but will loose.

  76. I really don't know whether or not I would be happy, sad, or mad about Sarah Palin becoming president relative to our current president. Will she be able to handle the current state of the country? I believe that she won't and I too believe that no one can handle the country in its current state. Palin's image has been obstructed by her reality television appearance, and I wouldn't be surprised if her political theories have been altered as well. Currently, I believe that there is niether a democrat nor Republican that can "fix" our economy, and this includes Sarah Palin.

  77. I don't think that Palin could ever become President. As other people have mentioned she has a reality show! I don't think a lot of people would take her seriously. She should stop trying to run as a candidate because i don't think she has a good chance of winning.

  79. I personally don't see Palin as a serious candidate for any upcoming elections, nor does any senior in galt high school from reading these past comments. She definitely comes off more as a celebrity than a president. Her "down to earth" and "folksy" attitude aren't what I'm looking for in a president. I'm looking for a serious individual who's willing to buckle down and get his hands dirty to help fix our economy. Palin's attitude doesn't strike me as fore mentioned qualifications.

  82. Leaving politics out of the equation, Palin just isn't as intelligent as a president of either party needs to be to be effective. The only reason anyone has ever heard of her is because McCain thought a pretty face would help him win the 2008 election.

Personally i feel that Palin is not ready to become the president of our nation anytime soon. If palin was to become president there would be to much chaos and also a nation led by a person that considers herself to be educated, but in many of the remarks she has made in the past;she seems that she still needs to be more aware of what shes putting out there. Palin is not ready and therefore she should stick to politics in places where they like her such as Alaska.

I think that Palin is someone that can take her own choices, and whether shes ready to be the president who knows? Palin seems to always be under controversy and this might not bring a positive feeling to our government. She can only make the decision whether she will try and make a fool of herself, or maybe she might succeed... but whatever she decides we will have to wait and see.

  86. Sarah Palin is simply an example of how a president should not act. She says things without thinking,[like WTF], she would be a bad first woman president. In addition to ruining the country, she would strengthen Ryan Glenn's opinion that woman should not a have a say in politics. Which is completely wrong. Her reality T.V show is a joke. When a person is watched 24/7 things that the public do not necessarily need to know will be revealed. A president needs to be serious, and Palin is not.

  88. it's tough to decide whether or not to take sarah palin. on one hand she is unlike any president we have had yet id say she she does not seem like someone we would want running our country, because she is so unorthodox. But on the other hand maybe we need something different...for years we have been electing the same type of people to be president and look where that has gotten us. electing sarah palin would be taking a huge chance, it might work or fail, but do we rly have that much more to lose?

  89. I think that she isn't the role model this country needs. I feel that she isn't strong or independent enough to be able to act effectively and efficiently. I mean how would she do being the commander in chief? Her tv show doesn't help her either. I just feel Iike she wouldn't be able to bring that stability our country needs.

  91. HAHAHA I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT IS WAY TOO FUNNY. SARAH PALIN WILL NEVER EVER WIN WITH THAT IMAGE. MATURE "ADULTS" VOTE FOR PRESIDENT AND SERIOUSLY THE WHOLE COUNTRY WANTS THE ECONOMY AND THE COUNTRY TO GET BETTER NOT BECOME A JOKE. WHAT IF INSTEAD OF BEING A PRESIDENT SHE IS MAKING JOKES AND BEING A COMEDIAN? SHE WOULD ONLY WIN IF KIDS WOULD VOTE HAHA. SORRY SARAH.

  92. The American people's view on Sarah Palin seems to be that she is basically a joke. People make fun of her for literally making up words when speaking to the American public with the sincere thought they are real words already, making hilariously innacurate and idiotic statements, and having an out of control family situation. Some take this with dignity, but at every turn Palin makes it worse and worse for herself. My parents wouldn't approve of me saying "WTF" and so I don't see how it is at appropriate for the president to. Even if she were to become the republican candidate, I think People would for vote for Obama over her, no matter how low his aproval rating. Or maybe it would be the first year of a third party win?
I actually think that Tina Fey has more respect from the American People than Palin herself.

Nothing about Sarah Palin is appropriate enough to be a future president. Any politician who chooses to have their own reality show is clearly only interested in fame. Half of what comes out of her mouth is made up words and phrases anyway. Not only that, but I don't think it is appropriate for any president to say WTF in any public forum. Sure maybe she says it in the privacy of her own home, do what you wish. In public it is just not acceptable for her to say those kinds of things. She is not presidential material and she will never have my vote for office at any level.

  96. I think that it is nice to hear Palin not talk in this "Political Correctness", it makes things straight to the point with out making it so hard to see what the message would be if she was being politically correct. I think she has shown the leadership skills to run Alaska effectively. I think she could make it as president but if she does she will have to face tough challenges.

If Palin became president I don't think she'd handle it. I know most people would vote for her because of her media and how much they "like" her but not for her political views. I wouldn't vote for Palin unless she would be completely serious about being President and had an outstanding view of what she wants for this country. But hey if Barack can do it, Palin can too.

I don't think that Palin could handle the position as president of the U.S. because she resigned as governor of Alaska. The comments that she has said and continues to say are not how a future president is supposed to act. I think that a woman will be president in the near future, but it won't be her.
