Where's Osama? (Post #19)

As the war continues in Afghanistan nearly 10 years after the tragedy of 911 many Americans still ask where is Osama? We know that he and his terrorist organization Al Qaida, planned, trained for, and eventually carried the attacks of 911 with the Taliban government's support in Afghanistan. We had him cornered in the caves of Tora Bora when he escaped never to be seen again with the exception of the rare video or audio statement declaring war on the infidel. Where is he, why can't we find him? What's going on that the most powerful military in the world can't capture the most wanted man ever? Maybe it's just not as simple as it sounds a recent article (check the videos with the article) discusses the difficulty of this mission for the CIA. He could be protected by another government, friend or enemy. What do you think? Is Osama Bin Laden even important to us anymore? Should America make an effort to catch Osama? Is it worth it? Would it help bring peace in the war on terror? Please remember to be respectful to other bloggers.

  1. Osama bin Laden is still important to us but not as impotant. Search for him, me must. however no to the extent we have been doing. I think we as America need to more of keep our eyes and hears open for him and Al Queada but not be putting as much money into the efforts as in the past. So yes he is important to be awhere of him but not openli searching for him. IF we were to catch hm it would probubly bring peace for awhile but some one would step up and fill the shoes in the terrorist group.

  2. I agree with Drake, Osama is still important, but not a current threat. I think some resources should be used to keep looking for him, but not as much as the past, because there are more urgent thearts that need to be dealt with.

  3. Catching Osama Bin Laden is not as vital as it was. The United States has already crippled many of his assets and sent him into hiding, where his effectiveness and danger is very limited. Our main objective now is to keep the terrorist networks on their heels so they cannot carry out another plan like September 11th. I would love to see Osama captured, but right now I believe it would be more of a final hurrah rather than an actual necessity.

  4. capturing osama has benn a topic that over the years has faded. i still belive that he should be captured and have a proper punishment for the terror he has coused. the by wich we capture him on the other hand should not be of exccesive amount, we should not waist thousands of $ looking for someone who may have grater powers supporting him but also because there are more important things we need to focus on. capturing osama will bring peace to the war and terror so many have died for.

  7. where is he? obviously we dont know.

why cant we find him? he probably has help from other countries.

strongest military cant find him? ok, we got the biggest guns, doesnt mean we can find 1 tiny man on this HUGE planet.

Osama is a symbol, he stands for the war on terror, if we took him down, the world would calm down to a degree, and feel more at peace.

we should make an effort to catch Osama, but we shouldn't make it our prime goal.

i dont think it would help the war much, catching Osama would probably start even more problems because his followers or other radicals might get upset by the "infidel" taking their "hero" hostage.

  8. Osama is a threat and should still be looked into. At this time, Osama is hidden for a reason. We have no idea what he could be doing, or who is helping him. For all we know, he could be creating some plot for another terrorist attack. In conclusion, it is not necessary to go all out on his capture now, but should not be forgotten.

I think that we should still search as much as we have in the past. I agree with fit for life though that if we did take him down that it might calm down a little bit but than i think that his followers would get angry and fight back. And I believe that Osama sould be caught and punished for training the group of terrorist that later attacked the twin towers and the pentagon and the ones that ended up getting the one plane crashed in to a feild. I think that we should continue to look for him untill we know for sure that he is in fact dead he is still a threat even in hiding it just shows that people can in fact get away with attacking the U.S.

  11. With all the other problems we are having to deal with here on the homefront, like the budget issues, I dont believe it is very important to find Osama. It has been years since he attacked us, and while he may be planning to do more, it is probably very difficult to do while in hiding. While i believe that it is important to keep an anti terrorist effort, it is not a very effective use of our time to try and capture Osama after years of futile attempts to do so.

Finding osama should be a deffinate priority of the U.S military because for one he planned the worst terrorist attack against us in U.S history secondly whos to say that hes not going to try again, and thirdly i think that it would send a message of fear to other prominant terrorists makeing them realize they will be caught and punished.

In my opinion, I believe that Osama isnt a threat anymore. this is because since he is wanted he stays hidden, so he has a less chance of making another attack, however since he is part of the Al Qaida organization he may have men to order to attack. So i think that he should be found, but than again it dont really matter.

Okay yeah he is a HUGE threat to the United States, but obviously he is either A)hiding somewhere watching his version of Dr. Phil and eating corn dogs or possibly B) planning another attack on our country... yeah I know this is an issue but honestly I feel as if our Military knows what to expect and will be ready, so as for Osama... bring it.... on hahaha

  21. Osama Bin Laden is still important for the U.S. to find. It would bring some peace of mind knowing that one of the leaders of the 911 attacks has been caught, but it is not the first priority of the U.S. We don't know if and when he is planning more attacks against us, so it would be a good idea to continue looking for him.

  23. I believe that Osama's where abouts are not that important to the government anymore. While in hiding Osama cannot do much without the help of supporters and not much has really happened since 911 to even worry about Osama. My thoughts are that the government is still only trying to catch Osama so that, not only can they prevent another attack, but also for our citizens peace of mind and sense of justice. It would be a great relief to all the family members of the victums of 911 for Osama to be caught, however our government's main priority, for a while now, has been our troops in Afganistan and Iraq and whether or not it is secure to bring them home. I believe our efforts should be more focused on what is happening today, no matter how much we want Osama captured.

I do beleive our goverment should continue looking for him, then when we find Osama let the Iraqi people take care of him since we no longer have Guantanamo Bay, nice change Obama, if he came here our justice system would be much too soft and human for the level of crime he has committed.

Even though Osama should be captured it is quite obvious that just by capturing him all the terroirst attacks will not end. Our military might be the best one in the world, but we must take into consideration that the U.S. cannot just be tracking down Osama amd in any case i believe that catching him would cause to much turmoil and would bring about more problems. Even though he is a horrible person and potentially could cause threats, but for now our government has other things that they must focus on before trying to capture Osama. Obviously the U.S. also has confidential information that they must keep about him because i am sure that with all the intelligence we have we problably do know or assume were he is at, but have not taken action against him yet.

In earlier years this would have been something easy to talk about because of course we would do anything to have him dead. But as far as now in the present there is no reason to spend half as much effort as we did in the past. Yes it would be the best thing in the world to capture and torture him for the rest of his life here in the U.S., but I believe the day we capture him should just come to us instead of us waisting time and money in looking for him.

  55. We need to catch Osama. He killed our people, made our entire country suffer, and gets away with it? That don't fly... or at least it shouldn't. Not in my book, and certainly not in America (the best country on earth). As for why we can't find him, we can. We have in the past. We just don't know for sure where he is now, though there is some very poignant evidence pointing toward the Pakistani government hiding him. In the early 2000's we knew he was in the Afghan mountains. We hellfire missiled the rocks out of many caves and progressively worked towards the center of the mountain range. When stupid politicians made our forces halt actions a few days, a convoy left those mountains. I and Many high ranking military officials believe Osama was in that convoy. Where did it go? Pakistan. Today we consider Pakistan an ally - of sorts. We send them evidence of Al-Queda and Taliban leaders and camps in their country and they go "investigate" the area. It is shocking that they never seem to find anything...
When confronted with our belief Osama is in the North region of their country, they said there was no evidence pointing in that direction. When the Pentagon was asked if Osama was there, they neither confirmed nor denied if he was or not. Check out this site if you don't believe me. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/oct/18/osama-bin-laden-pakistan-nato
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but i think our military knows exactly where Osama Bin-Laden is. They havent killed him because they dont want to start a war with the Pakistani government. If we were to kill Osama without pakistan's approval, Pakistan would get mad. As would all the Arab countries, probably. So for now we can't do much except watch Osama's every move... as we probably have been doing since Sept. 12, 2001.

He's probably protected by the messed up government over that, by the way, doesn't like us! If we just laid low and tried to let the government loosen the ropes a little, I bet we could find him. Send miners underground or something. He's in there somewhere. I'm not sure it would help to bring peace in the war on terror, but it sure would bring peace of mind to Americans. I'm not sure full peace of mind will ever be found, considering we're pulling out of a half finished war right now, but that's irrelevant. If we find Osama, we probably won't get brutally terrorized again. He's the leader! Any attack plans wouldn't work without his obviously brilliant mind putting it all together for Al Qaida.

He has clearly seen what we are capable of when we are provoked and could never successfully attack our country as he did before. Searching for him now is just a waste of taxpayer dollars and will continue to increase our national debt. If no one has found him in 10 years, then no one probably ever will.

i dont think that it is our number one priority to catch osama. however, i still believe it is important for our country's safety that we capture him. this man has successfully terrorized our country and took many lives. it is only right that he be found. he's a smart fella so i wouldnt expect to read that he's been captured in tomorrows paper.

  67. Osama is definitely still a wanted man, and it's still important to capture him in order to eliminate any future threats he might pose in the future. Finding and disposing of him would clear many people's minds of the horrible crimes he has committed against America. However, eliminating him could potentially spark more conflict between the Middle East and America, so I can see why some people might propose to just leave it be.

I think that the United States could catch Osama Bin Laden but the government chooses not to. If we caught Osama people would start asking why the CIA needs so much money if they already had their most wanted man and the CIA would lose funding. I also think that Osama isn't that important nowadays because the war that where fighting in Afghanistan has nothing to do with him and we are bombing randam Taliban locations in Pakistan where we know someone smart like Osama would go. Osama was smart and he has let the steam cool off and gotten away with a huge terror attack.

They'll never get thoes lives back and if you could get revenge on the person who did it, then most people would take advantage of that and keep searching.
