I read the article about Soros donating $1 million to the yes on 19 campaign. Yes, it may allow the commercial to air more, but it might be too late. Maybe it's the channels I am watching, but I haven't seen any commercials on tv about proposition 19, so I don't know how effective the commercial will actually be. People say that this proposition will bring in tons of money in revenue for the state, but I'm not so sure about that. People opposed to the prop argue that the long-term public costs of this prop could exceed the revenue brought in.

  2. My opinion is no don't legalize, because to me weed is just doing fine why all of a sudden we need to legalize it, we could be spending money in schools.

  3. Prop 19 should pass. It would stimulate the econmoy in this time of the great recession. legalizing it would create many job oppurtinites, take some strain off of the prison system and court system. It would save tons of tax dollars which could be put to much better use.

well i read the article anout the battle over marijuana in california and i believe that it should be leagalize it and no its not because its cool or w.e any other dumb reason a teen can come up with. But because why our we going to waste our money on sending people to jail or prison on drug crimes such as possession of marijuana instead we could use the money on schools jobs and the reparation of any item that may need it why fight and loose money that we could use for better purposes.

  5. I read the marijuana article, I strongly disagree on legalizing it. We don't need more people to be high and drinking combined. The crime rate and accidents I predict will rise. It also doesn't specify if you can go to work high or not. So people could show up to work high and what if it's a heart surgeon.

  6. After reading the "Battles over medical marijuana still stirring across California" article, I have come to a conclusion that marijuana would be better illegal because it causes too many issues for communities. Issues such as crime, and illegal sales and trade would be at large if prop 19 were to pass.

I watched to comedy central ad, and I am still not sure how to think on this prop.
To me it is the moral decay of our society.. But on the other hand, our society has changed the way it think, and marijuana isn't as taboo as it used to be.
do we want people sitting on the sidewalk, in a park, in front of a business, in front of our children, smoking weed and getting high?
Ya itll save money, and will even bring in money.
Our police officers could focus on bigger problems such as meth, rapists, murderers, etc.
    But at what cost?
To me all politicians and ads are deceptive, so I would need to read the legit proposed prop, in order to fully decide.

  9. I watched/ read Pot backers air Comedy Central ad, dress up for 'Sanity' rally. I'm still not sure how i feel about Prop 19. The commercial is pro Prop 19 so its oviously bias but it has some truth in it. There are some outdated laws that need to revised. I personnally agree that cops need to spend more time finding other criminals other than those who just smoke or posses small amounts of pot.

Alright alright, so basically this whole proposition is a joke in my opinion. Yeah, they say this proposition being passed "May" bring in 14 million and or more in taxes, but how do they know? There are so many people that use Marijuana these days. Children my age, even as young as sixth grade are using this ILLEGAL substance. If we legalize Marijuana do you think this will decrease? Honestly I read "Comic identifies symptoms of pot paranoia: 'Arresting people'" and "Pot backers air Comedy Central ad, dress up for 'Sanity' rally". Both of these articles served no purpose, and as I scrolled down the page and read the comments from people, they seriously seemed like complete idiots! Seriously, you have one back up on this Prop, and I would be perfectly fine with this prop IF it were only for medical use. Our society can only take this matter as a joke, why else would we have comedians representing this matter? You do not see Obama, or important figures stating "PRO PROP 19" do you? Seriously, this legalization if it occurs will harm our society, people will be more lazy, what will be the point in drug testing? Children will be affected, how would you feel if your teacher came to school stoned? I would be very angry. "Basically, California said, 'We can't pay our bills. Hey, I know: Let's sell some weed.'" This statement is exactly how this proposition seems, AND if this is the CHANGE Obama is bringing to our country, to our state... I personally resent it. So thinks twice before you vote, and please for those who think they "KNOW ALL" because you use Marijuana know your facts before you say things, and think of both sides.

  11. I read the article concerning the closely watched California marijuana vote south of the border. I see this as just another reason to legalize the drug. Medical use has already been proved harmless. Passing this proposition would help bring millions in taxes. Marijuana is currently California's number 1 cash crop, and legalizing it would not only lower crime, but also put drug dealers out of business, and the revenue could help put a small dent in the current California deficit.

  12. I read and watched the video on "Comic identifies symptoms of pot paranoia: 'Arresting people'." It was quite funny and seems true to Keith Lowell Jensen's sayings. I personally thought that what he said was very reasonable and seems true. Just because many citizens don't do marijuana, that doesn't mean that they should stop others from doing it. It's up to that own individual to decide whether he/she does marijuana. Yes it will hurt our society, I personally believe too, but no matter what, people will do what they want. Legalizing or not legalizing marijuana, either ways, marijuana will still be used.

ok so all the reason they gave were excellent but there were so many things wrong with those statements. like the first this drug that inhibits brain cpacity be used for education, i mean come on people really? also im know weed isn't addicting but if they have rehabs for sex i think this isn't far behind. OK the cures one is ok, but thats already legal, don't use it as an example. For the state parks one there is another bill on the ballot for that purpose only. and what is this about community gardens? Plant a rose bush people. I'm in favor of passing this propostion for the tax benefits but the reason in this article are rediculous

i watched the video of "pot paranoia." i believe that we should legalize it. not for my own use, but for those who do use it, it would help stimulate our economy. the tax dollars could be put to use. many people who illegally use this can be contributors to helping our economy

  15. "Marijuana Vote Watched Closely South of the Border" is an article that describes the relationship between Mexico and the U.S., and it's a relationship of drug cartels to their customers. Proposition 19 sends the completely wrong message to Mexico's government, a government that has watched the United States forget, forgive, and then embrace the very drugs that have cost so much grief and hardship in Mexico. Legalizing marijuana is a slap in the face to the Mexican government's drug war and it would encourage the cartels that have torn our neighbors apart.

I think that marijuana legalized would save us a lot of trouble as a state...Think about it, new job opportunities, mellow communities...and as for everyone saying that people will be showing up to work stoned...the rules will most likely be the same as the drinking laws...have to be 21, and major consequences if you show up to work intoxicated....

  19. On of the many bad things about legalizing marijuana is that once this happens the federal gov will no longer give us "the state of california" grants and other money for such as reconstructing bridges like the C street over pass and the twin cities over pass so theres alot of pros and cons in the legalizing this drug.

    ReplyDelete
  20. read article about governor signing decriminalization bill. it pretty much said that carrying a small amount of marijuana on your person will no longer be a misdemeanor, it will become a simple infraction. the penalty will simply become a $100 fee. with the signing of this bill, the prison system will become a lot less clogged, the government will have a good way of making money; but people are more likely to still carry marijuana on them knowing that they penalty in not as strict.

  23. This has always been a really hard proposition for me to be fully for, or against. We all know the bad stuuf: you can kill yourself doing something dumb because you're high, you can kill somebody ELSE because you are high and acting stupid, it is POSITIVELY a gateway drug (unfortunatley, in my family, there is alot of drug abuse. Ive lived it. I know) But then there are the good things: We could stimulate our economy, and try to fix California (after all, when Cali is doing well, most likely, all of America is doing well) We could put about $14 million onto our horribly poor and run-down schools. But then, it gets personal. You will always have 21 and older dealers, trying to sell to YOUNG kids. That scares me, an older sister of 6 siblings. Then theres the uncertainty: what will this really do for the economy? I mean, these people dont know FOR SURE if this proposition will bring in this $14 million? We will only know if this prop. is passed. But what if it goes bad? What if we have a bunch of stoners running around, being stupid, and killing people? Its scary. I am really for Prop. 19 on a certain level, because we could stop wasting our time with misdomeaners because of drug possesion. Seriously, our police officers can be focused on violent crimes. They could be out catching a rapist, instead of dealing with a high, and dumb, teenager. Rereading my response, I guess I would be for it...?

  24. I read the article "As Latino group endorses Prop 19, Mexican Leader decries it". I disagree with the article, that the legalization of marijuana would work out better for Latinos or other people. It might actually encourage people to start a bad habit that they can get addicted to. If this drug becomes legal, people will want to pass laws in the future in favor of other drugs. There are other ways to help the economy.

I read the article about Soros and his $1 million. It is crazy that someone would spend that much money to make marijuana legal. It is a disgusting drug that impairs a person's senses. Not only does it smell horrible, but young children could be getting high from it. Legalizing it would just cause more problems and people would smoke it in public more often. I am glad the proponents are behind in the polls. I hope the proposition does not pass. This state does not need any more problems than its already got.

I have seen no add either and doubt that it will make a differnece in the proposition. If it passes cool if it dosnt thats cool too, i feel like it dosnt make a difference. Its not like everyone is gonna be growing marijuana plants in their backyard now. Prop 19 passing could help the economy, but the result of it is that there might be accidents on the roads. Drunk driving is also similar to pot driving. Well, in my opinion, what's the point on legalizing weed when everyone can still buy weed illegaly. I think the rate of people buying weed will be low because you can buy a dub of weed for $20 compare on the price you'll have to pay if you buy from the government.

Uh oh i had a feeling we were going to talk about this topic lol. But after reading the article "New Prop 19 ad declares 'war on Marijuana Has Failed" I would have to agree with San Jose Police Chief Joseph McNamara when he says "the war on marijuana has failed and it is time to legalize pot to allow police to focus on violent crimes, and put drug cartels out of business." With less attention on crimes of marijuana there will be more focus that can be put on more violent crimes like drug cartel. Passing this will not only do this, but it will also bring in money that our state needs at this time of crisis.

I watched the comedian's video about legalizing MJ and he actually made some good points.

He stated that just because he doesn't smoke it doesn't mean everyone else can't; he just simply chooses not to. I agree somewhat, because you choose your own fate and only you can decide what you want to do with your life, but that doesn't mean that I agree with legalizing the drug.

If it is legalized, it could surprise us all and take a turn that we weren't expecting. What if supply & demand stayed the same or even went down, because now everyone (of age) can smoke it so it suddenly looses it's luster. It's no longer a forbidden thing that makes you feel rebellious or cool even, it's just another evil in this world.

    I say legalize it.
The people who choose to use the drug have been warned about the long term health effects and the tax on it, so why not let them suffer their fate. It's what they want, it's what they choose for themself.
And if it gets out of hand, can't we veto the law?

  39. I read and watched the Stephen Colbert: Prop 19 "most popular candidate in California". I believe that we need to not pass prop 19, because it is bad for everyone. It is a terrible drug, and people need to stop pretending like it is safe because it is not. Joseph Califano Jr. of the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse brought up the fact that legalizing marajuana will hurt children, not help them, because kids will be able to access it easier. The bottom line is that this proposition maybe popular, but even if it passes the federal government will step in and ban it, so I don't care which way anyone on this issue because, luckily, the federal government has the public's best interest at heart on this issue, even though most of the public doesn't.

excuse me mr macnamara, but just because people are still committing murders doesn't mean that we should legalize that too. That logic is... funny. this proposition is just one more disgusting step towards government soma distribution.

irony: one bill this year, 23, boosts our market and economy by stifling the green movement. 19, however, promises a boost in our market and says to go "green" all the way. heheh.

People are getting it illegally now, and they can still continue to do that, tax-free, if Prop 19 is passed. I don't really like what the former San Jose Police Chief Joseph McNamara said about "the war on marijuana has failed" and that by legalizing marijuana it will "allow police to focus on violent crimes, and put drug cartels out of business." It just seems like he is giving up and giving in. Just because it is more convenient to let people do drugs, doesn't mean that it is justified and should be allowed.

In the beginning I thought the legalization would be a good thing to tax and raise money for our state. But after reading how much that the prices will drop for weed, it’s kinda ridiculous. I’m not sure if it would be beneficial or not? Maybe in the long run because there will be taxes in general on it and the government can actually take money, but it doesn’t give the sellers much profit…

California has lost the war against this drug, and legalizing marijuana is like giving up and letting the people have what they want when they want. California will also get money out of it, but I don't think that this is a justifiable reason to legalize marijuana. Those who oppose it are the once who will lose their business. The wife and husband that are medical pot providers dissaprove of it, but they do make a good point that if this drug ends up being legalized then it should be given a high tax. I read the article called, "Pot legalization group pitches a revived California in the green". I believe that prop 19 should not be passed in California or any where else. Already people are smoking marijuana without it being legalized so if it is legalized it would be worse, they would smoke all the time, and they will have less trouble getting it. Having the marijuana legalized will affect all of California in general because it won't be safe anymore, childrens will not be able to go outside in the parks without their parents not worrying about them, streets would also become dangerous, if people smoking marijuana are driving or even walking down the street.

Both articles stated facts to prove Proposition 19 should NOT be passed, one article for medical reasoning and one article for work place safety. The issues of legalizing marijuana seem to be similar to legalizing alcohol in the 1920's. I don't believe that workers would actually show up to their jobs stoned, just like today workers don't usually show up to their jobs drunk. However, I agree that there are some safety hazards that could come up if Proposition 19 passes, especially medically. People today already attempt to fake their way into obtaining medical marijuana, but if the drug was legal there wouldn't be a limit that could easily be controlled.

In my opinion, this prop is complete (for lack of a better word) bull-crap. The article stated that it is presumed to bring in a great amount of money that could benifit this state, but the reality is that the price will drop. A price drop in marijuana will lead to a drop in the presumed profit from whatever number was projected, down to somewhere along the lines of $50 million. This $50 million profit was compared to a large winery, and when compared to the state as a whole, it will have an effect, but no significant effect. Prop 19 shouldn't exist...

Let's face it, people are gonna smoke pot no matter what, why not make a little revenue off of it? I read the article about Soros and his million dollar donation to voting yes on Prop 19. I'm not sure if this was really worth it at all; not only because legalizing marijuana isn't worth it, but because I haven't even seen a commercial on the issue. I'm not sure if it's the channels I watch or what, but they aren't on there! If the million dollars was to put the commercials on the air, it was obviously a waste. Marijuana shouldn't even be legalized in the first place. It's a dangerous idea and if it's not prescribed to someone as medical marijuana, I think it would get really out of hand and people would abuse their right to it to no end. It also seems kind of dangerous. If it did help out the economy, it wouldn't really matter in the long run because legalization would probably kill the school systems, even if the legal age would be 21. Then it would be that much easier for kids our age to get it, smoke it, and fail out of school...thus creating more money needed to help out all the bombed schools. No on Prop 19! :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. I watched the Colbert video, and while i agree that it would be extremely easy for kids under 21 to get weed if prop 19 passes, it probably is just as easy now. You can never ban things completely, so policy makers should just allow weed to become legal. With tabacco and alcohol companies booming through any economic crisis, perhaps the market for marajuana could be the same way. I think that there is no use in trying to stop prop 19 from passing, because that just means that there will be more criminal acts than need be.

  63. I read the article on what the attorney general would do if the bill passed or failed. It depends on who the Attorney general would be... Some would defend the proposition while others ignore it. Personally, i think the proposition is ridiculous. I think this for a few reasons:

Many more people would be addicted to marijuana and high all the time. Is that good? Definatly not. The vast majority of pot heads in high school have terrible grades and don't give a crap about society or what happens in it, all they want is more pot. If the entire state was high all the time like that, think where our economy would be then. A state could not function if many of its population was in a narcotic stupor hours a day.

Another reason is that it would still be illegal federally. Yes, the Feds said medical marijuana was ok. I think the reason they say no to flat legalization, even in spite of the tax revenue it would bring in, is because they feel enough is enough. The federal government knows a blazed state would be detrimental to the health of not only that state, but to America. And that dont fly.

Also possibly because the more people smoke, the lazier they get, therefore the more people will be sitting on Facebook all day. In regards to the second article, I totally praise the comedian for being able to make the point that just because you yourself have no affiliation with the drug doesn't mean you have to ruin it for others just because you can. I am glad that prop 19 did not pass because even though it promised it would bring in tons of revenue, it would be really expensive to buy it and it would still be just as cheap to but it on the black market or however it works. also i don't want to see people around children being all high and stoned. what kind of influence would that put on the younger generation?

  119. I firmly stand behind no on prop 19.
legalizing a drug the will not help us clean out the prisons, nor will it raise revenue.
We will replaces "no victim crimes" with victim crimes. How many people will now be driving under another influence? How many people will loose control of them self and commit crimes they normally wouldn't do? How many people will die because of marijuana? How many people will have ruined lives? How many people will blow their brains out and become mindless voting sucking leaches upon or government and economy?
Its not like we already have a problem with alcohol and tobacco. Oh wait, yes we do.
pot is a plant, and its easy to grow, so why in the world would people buy it? Some will, but they can find cheap alternative ways that are not legal. What revenue will be made, will be lost in support for these people who have trashed their lives.
I watched the Steven Colbert article. Luck for Ca, Marijuana was not the most popular candidate.

  120. I believe that marijuana should not be legalized. This issue could lead to crime and to other things. Instead we could use the money for other important things. I do not think that prop 19 is worth legalizing.

  121. "It will generate billions of dollars for local communities, allow police to focus on violent crimes, and put drug cartels out of business. Join me and many others in law enforcement" When i first heard of prop 19 I was against it. I thought that by legalizing pot we would follow a path that would eventually legalize most drugs. Our world seems to be getting less and less conservative which can only propose so many doubts in my mind. However, taxing marijuana would have made a substantial amount of money. I am not completely sure what the issue at the border is but i do know that there are drug battles. If pot was legalized it may stop some of that violence. Is it worth legalizing pot to make money or should we be a more conservative society?

  122. i think that pot legalization could open up some doors for the economy by creating new jobs. and for all of the people who do buy it, they would be putting forth money to the economy.

  123. The first article about who closley waatches the votes on prop 19 really surprised me. It said that the drug cartels are the ones paying active attention to the issue. This would make it either easier for them or they will lossoe business. Then the second article was about top physicians who are against this proposition. they are against the proposition because they are worried that medical marijuana users will run risks for an open market. Last the Govenor singed a bill that woukd make the possesion of an ounce of marijuana or more an infraction instead of a misdemeaner which i think is a good way to clean up the courts.

  124. I read the article about the controversy over the legalization of marijuana, & I believe that it should have been passed. I think that this will only benefited for those who could have used it to ease or lesson their pain or symptoms. And also, taxing marijuana would have also generated much needed amount of money, in which could have been put to good use.

  125. This is probably the most obsurd proposition ever thought of. I would vote no in a heart beat . Well even if people voted its going to be ruled unconstitutional. Futhermore take it from an asthmatic i dont need anymore pollution (fumes) messing with my lungs. JOrdan Elzie per 2 sloan

  127. On the article of Stephen Colbert it tells you all the pros and cons about prop 19 not only those it tell you the pros and cons, but its very specific on the subject. prop 19 is the one the has the most people wondering. It's the most famous in the ballot.

I watched the comic talking about paranoia and Pot. I think he's right! People are paranoid not from the pot but because they are afraid of getting caught. i think that the legalization of pot would have been a huge source of revenue and would have been great for our states budget.

  129. i think they should passed it, it coulda maybe helped the economy and stuff. and ruin the drug dealers out there. but even though itd be more easy for kids to get it, its not like its easy enough already getting it illegal.

  130. Marijuana Vote Watched Closely South of the Border- In this article it says that Mexico was keeping an eye out on wether California legalizes weed. Mexico is currently dealing with Drug Cartels and gangs. If the bill was to pass then those cartels would lose out on the money they make on marijuana sales. I think if we did this then there would be more trouble in Mexico.

  131. Im sorry but i never was a big fan of the whole weed and whatever else people smoke. I think they should pf never had it in the first place because all it does is kill peoples brain cells and to me what is the fun in killing brain cells and looking all not so smart.

New Proposition 19 ad declares 'War on marijuana has failed'

I believe in this, It is true that we are spending a lot of money on something that we have no control over. This is something that should have passed, but it was not purposed properly for it to pass. I think that it will be back once more, but this time pass.

  133. Mary Jane should be legalized because it is a medical help. Besides people are gonna keep smoking weed anyways. This prop may come back and it might pass.

I read the article about marijuana in california and I dnt knw if it would be a good idea to be legalized because in a good side this would make a big change and crime rates would go down and it should hae a certain age for its usage however, there are some bad things as well there would be more people that would get addicted and what if it becomes a problem with driving like alcohol and this would also make a problem.
