Presidential hopefuls 2012 (post #25)

Last week President Barak Obama announced his intention to run for the 2012 presidential re-election. The Republicans have a list of possible presidential nominees from the House and Senate along with a few state governors. The names range from the well known and controversial Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney to the less well known and more centrist Chris Christie and Tim Pawlenty. Recently the loudest and most visible republican hopeful has been Donald Trump. For the past couple of weeks he has been on any and every television talk show that will have him and discusses the nature of Obama's American citizenship. (see below) "The greatest con in history," Trump declares unhesitatingly. Is this true? Did the Democratic party find a Muslim Kenyan Senator to run for president of the United States of America? Or is it possible Donald Trump knows an opportunity for self promotion when he sees one. What do you think? Who will run against the incumbent? After a mid-term election trouncing by the republicans and Tea party politicians will the office go back to the the other side of the aisle. Who would you like to see run and why? What would be best for America? Please the opinions of others when you blog.

  1. With all of the past controversies and scandals with American presidents, Trump may be right about Obama's citizenship; but that has already been brought up in the last election in which Obama won, despite his shady heritage and beliefs. Most of all, I think Trump is looking for a little self promotion and a little time in the spot light. It is possible that the office may go to the hands of republicans as people might put the blame of the economy on democrats. What would be best for America is if we found a very headstrong presidential candidate who is looking to better America and not get caught in all the politics.

  2. Being such a successful business man, Trump definitely knows how to get ahead. I think that all of the controversies surrounding the president are just silly because it is too late to do anything about it now, obviously the nation deemed him worthy of the job despite the controversies. It is really too soon to tell what exactly will happen in the future but I'm sure whatever does happen there will be many controversies about that too.

Well, it's not like it can get much worse than Obama, so help me God if he's our president another four years. I think Donald Trump would actually be a really good leader because he's not in it for the politics. He's one ofht ebest businessmen the US has seen in a long, long time; and that's what we need now. ...Or in 2012. He'd be a promising choice to help our country out of its huge debt. Regardless of any qualifications they might have, Sarah Palin definitely and Mitt Romney probably just wouldn't win if they ran in the 2012 race. No one knows who will win the next election; I just hope it's not Obama again. He has gotta go.

Obama is the right choice for America. The notions that people said about Obama not being an American citizen is crazy! He was born in Hawaii to a American mother and oh my god a Kenyan father. This is like saying John McCain isn't an American citizen because he was born in Panama on a military base but oh wait he's still an American. His religion is no problem either. He is a christian and that is that. Just because his father was born in Africa and is a muslim does not mean he his one as well. His father left his mother early in his life, before he was five I believe. Now that we have this nonsense out of the way we can get to the real question and the only question that matters. Obama 2012? Yes or no? I would say yes, only if Obama does not keep laying down to the Republicans This is the only way things can get done in the white house. The senate will stay in the hands of the Democrats and hopefully the house will make Democratic gains as well. This will allow for the government to actually get something done and will hopefully get America out of these two wars which should never have happened. Time will tell what will happen. If the people vote Obama in or if they vote in a Republican in that is their doing and their right. I know I will do everything I can to help Obama and whoever his VP will be win this election and every other Democrat trying to run for office. As for the Republican opponent, I see either Tim Pawlenty or Mitt Romney becoming the front runners. It will make me extremely happy to see either former Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin or Congresswoman Michele Bachmann run for the presidency because this will ensure a victory for Obama. Well as I stated before we will see what happens twenty months from now. We may have the incumbent win, a Republican victory or a possible third party candidate mystify the American public and win. Who knows what will happen. I still think it is funny that Republican's blame this deficit on Obama when it was the Republican president who got America in this situation in the first place. Just my opinion thought so take it with a grain of salt.

i think obama is doing a fine job at being president. i do not think trump will be a good president at all. the controversy about obama and his citizenship was brought up last election. that did not stop him from winning and over coming the odds. trump is obvioulsy doing this for self promotion in my opinion. i think he needs to start explaining to the public why he thinks he will be a good president, instead of talking about obama.

I believe Donald Trump has the means to run, enough capital and know how but he doesn't have the support Obama does. He won't get voted in, and on what Trump says about Obama's citizenship it has been proven that he is a citizen so there is no argument there.

  12. In 1996 Steve Forbes ran in the republican primary and didn't win. I see Trump in a similar situation. Like Ricky said, he has the means, but probably not the support. So, based on past events I would have to guess that Trump doesn't have much of a chance. But then again, the American people really do seem to a have a thing for change:)

I'm sure that if Obama wasn't born in the U.S., then he would not be president. In order to even run as president, there would have had to have been extensive background checks, and obviously everything worked out because he's now our nation's leader. Donald Trump is known for being very sucessful, he knows what he wants and he isn't afraid to take on challenges. I think this is a touchy issues in terms of a lot of people wanting proof that Obama really is certified for the job, but I also believe Trump is just adding to the issue, rather then accepting the fact that we have a black president who intends to help America all that he can, just like all the other presidents before him. I don't mind who runs in the new election, as long as they have good morals and intend to keep their promises and make the right changes for America and its people.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I still can't believe that people are still bringing up the whole birth certificate issue. I don't think that Trump would make a good president, and I think that he is just doing this to get promotion.
Many see the condition that the nation is and they blame Obama for it. The problem with this is that Obama came into the presidency during a time when the economy was at its worst. No person would want to be in the situation that he is in.

Regarding republican candidates, I would like to see Sarah palin run just because it is a sure thing that she will not win. She might provide some humor to the presedential campaign with all her nonsense. I also agree with the other bloggers, if a republican wins the presidency I am okay with it aslong as it isn't her.

The whole video with Trump just seemed annoying to me. He spends an awfully long time repeating that a certificate of live birth is not the same as a birth certificate. I have not done any research on the matter, but I don't doubt that Obama was born in Hawaii. Trump's interview did seem like a pathetic attempt at self-promotion. He may be a good businessman, but that doesn't mean he will be a good president. Yes, Obama has the experience as a president and leader of America, but who knows if he really knows what he is doing. Trump doesn't have the experience as a presidential leader, but he does have the experience of a very powerful and well known leader. Either candidates would be fitting. He has proved to be a worthy president and i don't understand why he is criticized so much. people should know by now that the president does not control everything. It is hard to follow an agenda when you are constantly clashing with the opposing party. Now about Donald Trump. He has shown to be a very successful businessman, but I believe it takes more than that to be president. I have serious doubts as to why he is thinking of running for office. Is it for his the country or his wallet? I would hate to see the U.S turn into more of a corporate run country than it already is, and having a prevalent businessman like Trump at the head wouldn't really help. Corporate-America is not the way to go. I would really like for Ron Paul to be the republican candidate. Ron Paul's views on foreign affairs and the economy is what the U.S needs right now. We need to stay out of other countries and worry about our own. Ron Paul is very experienced in politics unlike Mr. Trump who has no political experience. Ron Paul is very straight forward about his view on things. Many times he has opposed his own party on controversial issues such as the patriot act. Thats the kind of president we need, a stubborn president who will follow his agenda.

Although there may be other names running against Obama, I believe the American people are more familiar with the name Trump and among other things, he definitely has this going for him. I can't say exactly who I would like to see win because I don't believe I follow politics well enough to do so. I also don't see it as 'just' for me to be a parrot and repeat all that my parents have told me in order to answer the question. I CAN say though that because of such a bandwagon effect, I don't see Obama or Palin, two other big names, having very high chances in the race since so many have come to dislike them, or at least think they dislike them. After so much 'talk' from Obama, when Americans see interviews such as this, I think they are going to appreciate and be attracted to Trump's straightforwardness. Many people also know that Trump is the businessman above all businessman and with the current oil situation, it would seem he may know a thing or two about negotiating us out of our suffering. For the reasons stated, if I had to choose a president with the little information I am familiar with, I would indeed choose Mr. Donald Trump for the position.

Trump vs Obama would be something to see, but it is not going to happen. First of all, Trump comes from a sorta shady past. Although he is very compatible with the position, he is just too much of a loved to be hated star to survive. On the other hand I never have supported Obama and I don't think he was born in the US. Obama has a reputation for underhand politics and doing whatever he wants to do with the United States image. I would not loose any sleep over that one. In conclusion I think trump would be the best for the job, but I don't think it would work out.

I believe that Obama should run again yet there are those that will go against Obama. It's really unfair though since Obama was left with a presidency that was in great debt and problems, also was left with a great national debt. Also take in mind that Obama is not the only one making the choices, they really need to stop bagging on the guy since he's human and can't see the future and decide what will be best for the future. Also Donald trumph is dumb and not even his money makes him any better and maybe he's just making crazy accusations because he needs the attention. Let's not even talk about Palin, she's really something and truly we could say that having a wild teengar would be the same thing. It's really hard o say who I would like to we run, if he could I would say Jesus but many wouldnt like that. But on a serious note it's hard since really not only one person can really handle the nation and it's decisions.

  65. Go with Obama! There's a reason why he's president now, if any factors are going to affect his chance to be re-elected, they wouldve stopped him in the last electiin. Plus, Trump wants presicent to look good, cause his toupee isn't cutting it. But seriously, Obama.

if trump were to run for president i wouldnt vote for him because he seems like he knows it all and always wants to be right. as someone commented he doesnt seem like a good president that would listen to the people. this is just nonsense trump should just stay off the president, keep his mounth closed. if he has something to say he should lend america money so wwe can get out of this trillion $ debt! haha.

I don't think the majority will go back to the republicans just yet, but I could be wrong. Trumpssss just rich and always wants to be on top off things... soo what iff obama wasnt born where he says hes born. l0l no i know it does matter but why wouldnt anyone look at this BEFORE he became president why now!? i think obama is doing what he kan, but not evryone agrees today on the freeway i saw a lady with a bumper stikerr that said. "OBAMA, OneBiggAssMistakeAmerica" i was like wow people hate him that bad!? i believe hes a better president than trump wud ever be. just because hes a succesful man doesnt mean anything. but its not just up to me to decide

  69. Personally I would like to see Newt Gingrich as the 2012 POTUS. Mike Huckabee is a close second. However the truth is, Obama will unfortunately more then likely be eleted again if unemployment lowers or stays relatively stable. So expect out of control spending and high taxes. Change all right.

  70. I do not think that Trump is right about Obama. The research has been done before he became president and it obviously was fine then, so people shouldn't keep questioning his citizenship. He has been president for this long I think someone would know if he wasn't a citizen. I think Trump might be a good president due to the fact that he is such a succesful business man so he could make good decisions to help the economy.

  71. Donald Trump... Really thats a bigger joke than Sarah Palin. Obama is the perfect fit for america. people dont like him because they expect him to change everything at the snap of a finger. Trump has no right to make the comments he did about Obama and he is definitely using it to boost his popularity.

  72. I think that in the position he is in, Obama is doing the best he can and I don't think that someone else would do that much of a better job. Obama didn't create the recession, he is just trying to deal with it. However, I think that there's a possibility people will consider not reelecting Obama because of the economic times. Trump may be considered because he is one ofthe best known business men in America, he is rich, he is successful, and he is famous. I don't follow politics to know all the details, but from what I do known think Obama is doing ok and trumps decision to run is a bit odd, but people might go for it.

  73. I think donald trump would make a good president solely because of his knowledge on how to run a buisness and deal with money problems. In my opinion he should run after Obama end's his presidency, not in 2012..Obama seems the perfect person to deal with the economy the way it is..

Trump is just seeking things from Obama like how he talks about his birth certificate. It's going to be a good challenge but yet possible however Obama needs to step up a bit more and prove himself better for what he can do.

It's hard to believe thatb our own president wouldn't tell everyone where he was born and is so secretive about showing his birth certificate. It would be shocking to know that he is lying to everyone of not being born in the U.S. Who knows though too because trump could just be looking at being the center of attention to make himself look good for running in this upcoming election. Incumbents do this all the time to one another. I wouldnt mind who becomes our next president as long as their suitable in taking actions to better our country and get us out of this huge deficeit.

Although obama has had his moments of weakness, he cannot get everything done. we should all know how difficult it is to get anything done in our government. However, if he does plan on creating change soon he'd better get a backbone and not just give in. As for Trump and Palin, they can go home. I'm so over these reality television personalities thinking they're what's best of the nation.

I personally think Trump is arrogant and thinks too highly of himself. Does he have concrete proof that the president isn't a born citizen? I don't think so. He thinks, since he has money, he can run his mouth and say what he wants. I will be able to vote next presidential election and he will definitely not be my choice. I want to see someone actually care about this country and want to make a positive change. Let's hope, for America's sake, that someone who fits that description will be on the ballot 2012.
