Is she serious.....enough? (Post #8)
With the next presidential elections coming in 2012 the republicans are looking for a candidate to run against Barak Obama. The list of possible nominees is long with names like Mit Romney, Donald Trump, and Sarah Palin among others. Sarah Palin the former vice-presidential candidate, Governor of Alaska, and reality television star, is in the news again. After the State of the Union address she commented the president's speech using a fairly common acronym "WTF." The president was referring to "winning the future" Ms. Palin was not. She has been described as "folksy," unorthodox, funny, and cute. Are any of these terms appropriate to describe a future president? Does she possess the necessary gravitas? Would Ms. Palin have the ability to deal with the extremely serious position of President of the United States? What is your opinion in this matter? Would you be happy with President Palin or not? Please be respectful of other opinions when you blog.

I don't think that Palin could ever win the presidency, not in a million years. She is just a little too 'out there' with her ideas and her comments. She is constantly in the news due to her controversial comments so I think that a lot of people disagree with her views. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other on if she becomes president but I don't think she ever could; If by some miracle she did manage the election to presidency I don't think she could handle it and would cave under the pressure. Palin is a unique candidate and some people like that, but I don't think those people could ever form a majority. Bauer/Sloan

I dont think this female could ever have a chance to run for president for the simple fact that a copious majority of people will not take her seriously. For instance im not taking her seriously and i dont think what she said is cute nor funny it is just unnecessary and im sure many of us dont care what she had to say about Obama's WTF plan, or as Palin said Obama's "thing."
To know that this lady even has a chance to become the President of the U.S. is out of this world. Terms such as "folksy, unorthodox, funny, and cute" are not adjectives that should be used to describe our "Future" President. They are terms that are better to describe an animal in my opinion. lol. Yes I understand Ms. Palin is a very unique candidate, and that is why soo many people like her, but let's be honest, why would we want someone who acts in such ways to be the President of our country? It makes me react the same way she did to Obama's speech...WTF!??.hahaha =)
ReplyDeleteTo be honest i dont think Sarah Palin has what it takes to be president. As mentioned above her comment really wasnt cute nor funny. My advice to her would be just stop because shes not going to win anyway.

I personally do NOT like Obama and I want someone else to be president. It's not that I don't like Palin, it's just that she is not popular among the people so I don't think that she would win although I really wish that she would win because why would people want a president that lied. She spoke the truth and yet people still don't like her. So that makes me think a lot.

well the world is deffinently changing, so i dont think sarahs use of the acronim "wtf" makes any difference of her being president or not. i mean she is a human being, she isnt like a super person. but i think her chance of winning is still the same as it has been.

There are a lot of people who are in love with Palin, and probably a good deal more who can't stand her. From what I've heard she did a pretty solid job running Alaska, and being a governor seems to be reasonable qualifications for being President. As far as the WTF comment, I find it refreshing to hear a political figure sharing her mind in laymans' terms rather than leaving the public with a bunch of politically correct, difficult to decipher, much too academic mumbo jumbo to sort through.
ReplyDeletei dont think palin has the proper social skills or class to be the next president. wtf? thats no way to respond to a colleague's speech, its something a teenager would do. She needs to get her show and family together first, then maybe she can focus on governor, but she would definitely not be a good presidential candidate.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone and Hailey haha, Palin has the vibrancy it should take to be a president, and certainly did a good job of running Alaska, but as of this point I think she said a little too much and had one too many reality TV shows to be taken seriously. She certainly has what it takes to be governor, buuuut I dont think her characteristics are what we need to fix America at this point, I think Trump would be more suitable atm.
ReplyDeleteI'm not into politics much and I can see how Ms. Palin doesn't come across as not being "professional" enough. However, it is kind of refreshing to see a political figure who is normal and can relate to the vast majority of Americans who don't fly on private jets to vacation spots between publicity shoots. And Donald Trump as president...WTF??
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Palin could handle the position as president of the U.S. because she resigned as governor of Alaska. The comments that she has said and continues to say are not how a future president is supposed to act. I think that a woman will be president in the near future, but it won't be her.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Sarah Palin did a great job as govenor of Alaska, running for President is another story. Her strive for publicity seems like a little too much; and it only makes sense that instead of taking care of presidential tasks, she will be on t.v. doing some reality show. Sarah Palin's 'tell it how it is' personality is comforting and reminds the public that she is one of us, and not some political walking dictionary. However, despite her "cuteness" and "unorthodox" way of doing things productively, she lacks the seriousness of our nation. All in all, Palin does not get my vote.
ReplyDeleteI dont think that Palin should not have used WTF to talk about and describe President Obama's state of the union speech. She needs to have more decency and respect to the President despite her opposition. I do not think that she should be a president and the adjectives used to describe her do not help, but she did do a fair job in Alaska. Sloan. p.3
ReplyDeleteI am very conservative as many know but would not vote for Sarah Palin. I feel she does not know enough to qualify for the job and I would not want her running our country. It's a joke that she is even being considered as a potential canidate in 2012 but I guess everyone has their own opinion
ReplyDeleteI dont think Palin has the personality to be the next president of the US because with all her comments she is acting not serious and she thinks everything is a joke.Imagine if she runs as a candidate i dont think she is going to win.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that sarah palin would make a good governor and defiently not a good president, i do not believe she could handle the seriousness or the pressure that would be placed on her. i personally would not feel protected with her as president.

This woman is "successfully unorthodox". She would run our country into the ground if she became president. While I do respect the fact that she speaks her mind, sometimes she just says things just to hear her own voice. The comment that she made in the video was ridiculous and completely out of bounds.

Hhah i think Palin is funny and cute, but when serious matters come into play she has the intelegence and experience. I would be okay woith her as president for she can handle serious situations, and the funny side of her will be entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI believe she has what it takes to become president, if Obama has what it takes she has it for sure! The only problem I could see that might work against her would be the publicity she has recieved out side of politics and the fact she is female our country tends to be old school and that never consisted of females leading.

I don't think Palin would win presidency. If she resigned being governer in Alaska, then it does't mean she would do any better as president. Important decisions and facts aren't described as cute or funny because it would make things seem as a joke. I would be surprised if she won. We need a president that takes the country serious and that would do whatever to handle severe situations.

i do not think Sarah Palin will win the president election. i also dont want her to win. if she isnt taken seriously now, how will people take her seriously as a president? being president isnt a joke and thats how she acts. she isnt being cute or funny when she talks about Obama's "wtf" phrase. if she does win somehow though, i will not be happy. unless she changes so that she isnt a person always trying to be cute or funny, then i dont want her as president.
ReplyDeletesome people may think that ms palin is well not exactly presidential material. however it would be cool to live in a time where the president is a woman. i know she makes silly comments and what not, but shes only human. shes probably a cool lady to hang out with. at the same time, i can almost guarentee she would not win the election, people have way too many opinions on her. like caleb said, nobody would take her seriously.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don’t think she would even come close to winning the election for president. In my eyes, people don’t take her so seriously. She was okay at a governor position but not as a leader of our country.
ReplyDeleteEven though I do agree with most that it seems Palin would not be fit for the roll of president (for reasons other than the matter at hand) and additionally I agree, as stated, "cute" etc. should NOT be terms to describe such a person, I do believe it to be ridiculous for everyone to get so flustered over what she said in commenting on the speech. She was trying to be funny, it didn't work, okay MOVE ON. Just based off of hearing her comment on the speech for about ten seconds, I do not think it would be "just" for anyone to declare or deny her of having the ability to "deal with the extremely serious position of President of the United States." We are so quick to judge in today's society it is absolutely sickening that just because we are considering someone for the role of President, we are not able to take into consideration the fact that this person still is human and will either sooner or later attempt to crack a joke. Trying to be funny every once in awhile doesn't mean you're off the bat not a responsible enough person to handle a "serious position."

Sarah Palin will win the president election that will never happen, she does not know enough to qualify for the job,she isnt being cute or funny when she talks about Obama's "wtf" phrase. the president job isnt a joke
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Palin is even being mentioned as representing the Republican party in the upcoming presidential election is bizzare. In no way shape or form does Palin have a shot at becoming the Commander-in-Chief. She is just too, like someone said earlier, "out there".
ReplyDeleteIt's difficult more me to take Sarah Palin seriously, and if she actually ran for President I doubt she would get elected. Honestly, if someone has a REALITY SHOW there's no way I could take them seriously. I was shocked by the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected to California governor. The video mentioned that Sarah Palin is very good at getting press and attention, which is true. But as a possible presidential candidate I don't believe she is getting the RIGHT attention. By the way she conducts herself, I would not trust her leading our executive branch. Maybe she is super brilliant, I don't know. But the media has a way of setting an image for people and her image is not a good one for office. If she wants to be taken seriously as a candidate, she needs to take her show off the air and watch what she says to the media.

If Sarah Palin runs for president, I do not think she will win. For someone who is trying to gain support from future voters, she did not use the right choice of words. Personally, I do not see that much of a problem with the word choice; like Hailey said it is refreshing. However, I do not vote yet, so maybe older people like the ones in the video make a good point. For Palin's sake, she should be careful about what she says because many people are going to be quick to judge her.

If WTF was the main theme of his original speech, I think it is HIS character that should be in question.

She has proven in Alaska, that she can do a good job. She has the ability I believe.

I don't think any of those terms are okay to use when describing a president. She is acting immature. What she said is not something she should not have reported to the media. Well, Sarah Palin would definitely be a step up from our "president" Barack Obama, that's for sure. She's not afraid to be different. Even if she comes off stupid, she's actually a normal person! She doesn't just say what people want to hear in order to win presidency and run our poor country into the ground even more than it was before, after not keeping almost all of the promises made. That was pointed at no one in particular...Obama. -__- Even if I thought she'd be fine as president, she probably won't be elected to the position. There are plenty of people who love her; but there are more people who aren't at all a fan. She ran Alaska well, I think that is a good background to have if someone ran for presidency. If she did get it, it'd be something new and fresh, something America obviously needs. And hey, she could say she did it all on her own, with no help from Oprah.

I believe that Palin could not be responsible, and serious enough to become the president, because she does not think about things the right way, she always does things, or answers questions in a non-serious way, just to get attention. I think that she is just wanting to get attention from the people, and is not so much interested in being a president because being a president means being responsible, and she is not.
In my opinion she would be better than who we have in there now. Everyone knows what his name abbreviated means, lol gotta love bumper stickers. But I think even if Palin ran she would lose and our country would be stuck with the same president for another four years. The Republicans need to nominate a candidate that is not just a celebrity or a fad. In the 2008 election the whole female president thing was popular so that is why Mccain chose her to be his vice president. Who knows, the election may have gone differently if he hadn't.
ReplyDeleteI do not think Palin could ever win presidency. Not because she is a woman or a Republican, but because of the way she conducts herslef during interviews and the fact that she has a reality TV show. I am unsure i could trust Palin to run the country because she is highly conservative, which is also why she wouldn't be able to win any Democrats or undecided states.
ReplyDeleteIf Palin was on her show and just filming for entertainment, it would have been acceptable. The fact that she was on an interview with the subject revolved around her presidency, is a different story. She portrayed herself to be silly and not serious enough. I don't think Palin has a chance in winning the election.
ReplyDeleteI believe that if she is characterized as that she does not have what it takes for presidency. If i had to choose between her and obama i would pick obama.

No, "funny" and "cute" are not the approptiate terms to describe a future president, espically if he/she wished to be taken seriously. For a leader to even be considered, certain characteristics should be defined- Is the candidate trustworthy, enthusiastic, and confident? Does he/she have a positive demeanor and express a sense of committed excellence to his/her citizens? In some instances I believe that Sarah Palin would have the ability to deal with the extremely serious position of president because I'm sure in the past she's made vaiild arguments on certain issues and a lot of people may have agreed with her. In my opinion, I could see Palin as our next president, if and only if she stepped up her game in being a presentable candidate, meaning no tomfoolery.
ReplyDeletei cant really see her as president with her saying the comments that she makes. to talk on public tv and to talk like that knowing that your trying to run for president doesnt show me that she is right for the position. it was really unapropriet for saying something like that while talking to the media. i would understand general talk but not the way she did it.

People expect the President to be much more serious. People state that Palin did a good job governing Alaska, but compare the amount of people in Alaska to the popullation of the U.S. Also it is good for a President to be famous, but Palin is more infamous than she is famous. If people get upset with the Democrats while Obama is in office, then she might have a chance at winning.
ReplyDeleteIn my honest opinion, we should let her run. It will definitely be entertaining, as she single handedly makes the Republicans a mere laughing stock in the eyes of the world, and the utter humiliation she experiences once she loses, would make my life complete. ReplyDeletePersonally i feel that Palin is not ready to become the president of our nation anytime soon. If palin was to become president there would be to much chaos and also a nation led by a person that considers herself to be educated, but in many of the remarks she has made in the past;she seems that she still needs to be more aware of what shes putting out there. Palin is not ready and therefore she should stick to politics in places where they like her such as Alaska.
ReplyDeleteI think that Palin is someone that can take her own choices, and whether shes ready to be the president who knows? Palin seems to always be under controversy and this might not bring a positive feeling to our government. She can only make the decision whether she will try and make a fool of herself, or maybe she might succeed... but whatever she decides we will have to wait and see.
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin is simply an example of how a president should not act. She says things without thinking,[like WTF], she would be a bad first woman president. I mean how would she do being the commander in chief? Her tv show doesn't help her either. I just feel Iike she wouldn't be able to bring that stability our country needs.
ReplyDeleteI believe that she shouldnt be president because she doesnt know how to act. why would you say something stupid like wtf on live television doesnt really make sense. I believe that she has nothing against Obama.

HAHAHA I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT IS WAY TOO FUNNY. SARAH PALIN WILL NEVER EVER WIN WITH THAT IMAGE. MATURE "ADULTS" VOTE FOR PRESIDENT AND SERIOUSLY THE WHOLE COUNTRY WANTS THE ECONOMY AND THE COUNTRY TO GET BETTER NOT BECOME A JOKE. WHAT IF INSTEAD OF BEING A PRESIDENT SHE IS MAKING JOKES AND BEING A COMEDIAN? SHE WOULD ONLY WIN IF KIDS WOULD VOTE HAHA. SORRY SARAH.
ReplyDeleteThe American people's view on Sarah Palin seems to be that she is basically a joke. People make fun of her for literally making up words when speaking to the American public with the sincere thought they are real words already, making hilariously innacurate and idiotic statements, and having an out of control family situation. Some take this with dignity, but at every turn Palin makes it worse and worse for herself. My parents wouldn't approve of me saying "WTF" and so I don't see how it is at appropriate for the president to. Even if she were to become the republican candidate, I think People would for vote for Obama over her, no matter how low his aproval rating. Or maybe it would be the first year of a third party win?
ReplyDeleteI actually think that Tina Fey has more respect from the American People than Palin herself.
Tina Fey for President!

Nothing about Sarah Palin is appropriate enough to be a future president. Any politician who chooses to have their own reality show is clearly only interested in fame. Half of what comes out of her mouth is made up words and phrases anyway. Not only that, but I don't think it is appropriate for any president to say WTF in any public forum. Sure maybe she says it in the privacy of her own home, do what you wish. In public it is just not acceptable for her to say those kinds of things. She is not presidential material and she will never have my vote for office at any level.

I dont really pay attention to the elections. but i think i will need to start becuase i am the big 18 now :).. so what ever happens.. happens the country will make the best decison. barock has been ok for our country but do we need an ebay person running our country... i dont think sooo lol go obama
i dont think Palin is suitable for being our countries next president. We need a president who is strong and able to be controlling. A person who knows the best options for our country to survive. i belive obama has done a good job at controlling and ruling this country.

I think that it is nice to hear Palin not talk in this "Political Correctness", it makes things straight to the point with out making it so hard to see what the message would be if she was being politically correct. I think she has shown the leadership skills to run Alaska effectively. I think she could make it as president but if she does she will have to face tough challenges.
ReplyDeleteIf Palin became president I don't think she'd handle it. I know most people would vote for her because of her media and how much they "like" her but not for her political views. I wouldn't vote for Palin unless she would be completely serious about being President and had an outstanding view of what she wants for this country. But hey if Barack can do it, Palin can too.
ReplyDeleteI think that Sarah Palin is trying to get attention because she wants to be the First lady president, but I don't know if she knows she's not wanted in the presidency.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Palin could handle the position as president of the U.S. because she resigned as governor of Alaska. The comments that she has said and continues to say are not how a future president is supposed to act. I think that a woman will be president in the near future, but it won't be her.
ReplyDeletei dont really think palin is suitable to be a president but i dont think that people should be hating on her. she is pretty intelligent and obviously knows what she's talking about because she is the governor of alaska. but maybe not the right person for the US president

i've seen a few episodes of sarah palin's new show on tv. she seems like a really down to earth person, and a good mom. she makes some goof ball mistakes sometimes, but she's the least politicianly politician i've ever seen lol
ReplyDeleteI dont think Palin has the right attitude required to be president. She seems like the kind that doesnt takes thinks seriously. Even though she has a high rank in society she doesnt have what it takes to compete with others.

To be honest i dont believe sarah palin has what it takes to become president. She is too much about being on TV and showing off. WE need a president that will devote all his intentions to helping the working people. We dont need someone that thinks they know what they are doing until they get there and draw blanks. we need someone with strong will determination and courage.
ReplyDeleteShe will never win the presidency. Period. End of story. She is under-qualified, incompetent and ignorant.
ReplyDeleteConner Woods Bauer
i think palin would be a terrible president. If she wins as the republican nomination they are goinmg to lose
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I don't think Sarah Palin should even think of running for president.
ReplyDeleteThe remark the she'd made about Obama was unnecessary, it was like if we don't need her opinion about what she thinks. She should just stick to the thinks the she knows to do the most.
