School Unification

There is a citizen group in Galt that is pushing to have the Galt elementary district and the Galt high school district to unify into one district. Would this be a good idea? If unification did NOT save money, would you still think it was a good idea?

The citizen group is prepared to collect signatures to put this issue on the local ballot. Would you sign the petition? Would you vote for unification when/if it is on a future ballot?

  1. I think that the districts should unify because it feels weird to have a split district with elementary on one side and high school on another. I think this because if it would save money it would be good for us. If it didnt save money then it should stay as it is. I would sign the petition if it would be guaranteed that we would save money doing this. On a future ballot i would have to see the circumstances and the negatives/positives.

  2. Joining the highschool and elementary districts would be a good idea seeing as how the highschool is already in debt, and that unifying the schools would save lots of money and also help the highschool get out of debt. Would i vote for this, yes. i would like to return in a couple of years and see my old highschool still standing proud.

  3. two seperate school districts have been the way it is ever since i went to elementary school. i don't see how it would save us money, by splitting financial needs between both districts, if we go above our spending limit it could potentially bring both districts in debt. but if it was on the ballot as a serious issue that needs to be solved in the city of Galt, i guess i would vote for it as well, considering everyone else thinks it would deeply help the schools financial problems.

  4. I think that if the elementary and high school districts were joined it would be a great benefit because of the debt that there is. Another great thing would be that if there are sibilings in elementary and high school they would only have to go to one campus which would make life easier for many. The thing that I believe would be a downfall is that there might be more bullying in the schools. Keeping that in mind i'm not sure if i would sign the petition.

  5. I was actually at the board meeting a few weeks ago and the lady that presented this did a very swell job in convincing me. This project was brought up years before and it actually is a very good idea. If the schools would unify not only would it save money, but we would have the same vacation days and that in turn is very convenient for families. Specially for those parents who work. A lot of families instead of putting their kids in daycare, would just have an older (high school) sibling take care of them. If this project was put on a ballot, i would vote yes, however, i would like to hear more about the project, just to be sure but people need to be open to ideas. Like Jeremy said, i'm a warrior and in the future i would like to see Galt High still standing proud.

  6. This project has pros and cons. In my opinion i think it would be a good idea because of the debt their is and they will also save money. On the other side though there has ben two districts since i started kindergarten and i think a lot of students that are now in school are used to havng to differnt districts and if these were to change then i think that would impact them.

  7. I think that combining the two districts would be a great thing that Galt should really consider. Only having to pay for one superintendent and other savings of money, combining the meetings so parents of both only need to use one night a month for the meetings, and having the same vacation days as (Carolina said) would all be benefits for having just one district. Even if money wasn't saved in this it would still earn my vote because of what was mentioned. If the group begins a petition, I will sign it and vote for it if it appears on the ballot.

  8. I think that combining the two different school districts would be a good idea because it saves the district money and it makes it easier to manage the schools under one district. All the school in galt would have uniform days off and school years which is good because it gets confusing wen you have children and one has school on monday but the other doesnt because of a teacher work day. If i this was brought up in the voting ballot i would vote for it because it makes the districts job esier.

I think that since Galt is such a small town that it is in the best interest to save money. But the question was if this would be a good idea if it did not save money and the answer is no. it has always been two districts so i do not see a good reason to change it if it is not saving us money.

  10. I think unifying the districts is a great idea. It is asinine to continue paying twice the amount of district staff when we can combine and eliminate extra costs. Having split districts only causes communication lapses between the districts and differing vacation times and early days, and also costs much more. I would definately vote for this on a ballot, both districts are in debt anyway, combining can only make things better in my opinion. Spend less money on people doing the same jobs by eliminating the extra jobs.

  11. yes, it is money that can be used in more and important areas. The galt elementary district has high test scores. There distinguished schools. In example, River oaks. They have great teachers and get there kids well prepared for high school.I think if we put both districts together, it would make Galt High school's test scores raise. So yes, i think we should collide the districts together. That would make us grow, and make the highschool look better as in getting new desk and books etc.
